How did you begin your career?
I completed my engineering in 2007, and joined a leading global IT services company. After gaining some experience, I completed an executive MBA, and landed an exciting job at a content services provider in a reporting role. However, after four years, I felt my work had become repetitive and unchallenging. My career prospects didn’t seem great, and I decided to do something about my situation.

I actively sought out people with similar profiles – those who had worked for a few years after getting their engineering and MBA degrees.

What steps did you take next?

Through LinkedIn and other online networks, I actively sought out people with similar profiles – those who had worked for a few years after getting their engineering and MBA degrees. I discovered that many of them had taken their career to the next level by shifting to analytics. They were doing well in their jobs, and enjoyed their work. The demand for analysts was rising by the day. With further research, I figured out that this field was best suited to my profile and my interests.

If you feel your job is monotonous and your career needs a boost, analytics is worth a shot.

How did you shift to analytics?
I started looking for a reputable training institute where I could learn the most sought after analytics skills and tools in the industry. I found Jigsaw Academy and went through their website and blog in detail. I felt that training with Jigsaw would make a real difference to my analytics skills. I enrolled for three of their courses right away – Data Science in SAS, Financial Analytics and Fraud Analytics. After completing the courses, I felt that I was industry-ready and I started applying for suitable vacancies. My confidence rose further after appearing for a few interviews. Eventually, I joined GE Capital as a marketing analyst. I have learned quite a bit in my new job, and I am sure that I have made the right career choice by switching to analytics. I am convinced that an exciting and fulfilling career awaits me.

What is your advice to professionals who are in similar situations?
Right when I thought my career was going nowhere, Jigsaw’s courses put me on the fast track to success. I am progressing rapidly in an industry which is currently growing, and is set to grow exponentially in the future.

After working for a few years, if you feel your job is monotonous and your career needs a boost, analytics is worth a shot. Do not decide right away – do your research, talk to analytics professionals, and assess whether it is the right fit for your profile. Once you decide to go ahead, complete the requisite courses from a reputable training institute. With determination and hard work, you will land a great job and have a successful career.
