Rajesh leveraged his decade-long experience in the IT/KPO sector and a Jigsaw course to make a lateral shift to analytics
Why did you feel the need for a mid-career shift?
The initial phase of learning and growth was excellent but as I was promoted, things started to go downhill. Long workdays, changing shifts, and high stress became the norm. Also the KPO sector was experiencing a sustained dip in business margins, and I was not sure whether it would experience good growth in the future. My seniors and mentors told me about the immense potential of analytics, and I felt that moving to this industry would give my career the boost that I was looking for.
Tell us about your preparation for the transition.
I tried out a short term course at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), but it was too theoretical. After searching for a recognized, application-oriented course, I eventually came across Jigsaw’s Data Science course and decided to join it. The virtual training experience was quite interesting. The Jigsaw faculty paced the course well, and kept it extremely engaging and practical. The course was case study based, which was exactly what I wanted. The virtual lab helped me code at my convenience, and the trainers gave me regular feedback on my coding. All doubts are solved through live sessions, and the trainers make it a point to include examples from their experience while doing so.

How did you move to analytics?
After completion of the course, I was planning to start looking out for jobs. However, I was apprehensive of changing my stream of work after 10 years of experience. Jigsaw stepped in and helped me customize my CV. They also gave me a lot of confidence and support, which was quite helpful to me at that stage. I positioned myself as a project manager with diverse experience, instead of highlighting specific domains where I had worked. Soon, I cleared 8 rounds of screening / interviews, and landed a job as a project manager in the analytics unit of the clinical operations team at Novartis.
I can confidently say that with the right training institute and continuous learning, anyone can switch to analytics successfully.
How does the future look for you, and for analytics?
The future definitely looks promising. I love my job and I look forward to exponential growth in this industry. My learning continues, and I keep upskilling as much as possible. Before Jigsaw, I was nervous and skeptical about shifting to analytics. Now I can confidently say that with the right training institute and continuous learning, anyone can switch to analytics successfully.
